What is the Giving Tree Learning Center?
- A multi-age, outdoor-focused, child-driven community where kids gather together to develop friendships and a love of learning.
- Our “teachers” are guides who facilitate the learning process using the Socratic method to ask questions and develop kids’ critical thinking skills.
- Afternoons focus on extracurricular activities including chess, art, foreign language, and music/music theater.
- Kids experience hands-on science through partnerships with Herring Gut Coastal Science Center, Merryspring Nature Center, and Chewonki.
- A one room schoolhouse located in a beautiful old barn in Camden, ME with plenty of room to roam outside, including an old apple orchard.
- Kids are registered as homeschoolers leaving parents in control of each child’s learning.
OUTDOOR-FOCUSED
3+ acres for kids to run, explore, play, and spend time outside with field trips to local nature-based centers
CHILD-DRIVEN
Kids move at their own pace and pursue their interests while also making time for core learning in math, reading, and language arts
PROJECT-BASED
Learning through hands-on projects like directing and producing a play involving the whole class
